Hello there! If you are reading this that means you have stumbled onto my blog that I am writing for my Fundamentals of Digital and Online Media class. My name is Alec Parker, I am a 25 year old Public Relations major at Texas State University. My purpose for this blog is to give a better insight into one of the most played games of all time, World of Warcraft. At its peak, WoW had over 12 million concurrent users, which at the time in 2010 was a world record. Throughout my time writing here I will attempt to explain the various aspects of the game and the many different ways WoW has stayed relevant to gamers around the world for almost 15 years!
I decided to choose this topic because it is something that is very dear to me. I have been playing games as long as I can remember and it has always been an escape from the stress and rigors of daily life. Throughout my time gaming no game has left a stronger impression, captured my imagination and attention more than World of Warcraft. I began playing shortly after its launch in 2004 while I was in the fifth grade. Since then, I have played off an on throughout my life, always being drawn back to the allure of the game for some reason or another.
Throughout my time writing here I hope to cover many aspects of the game. From getting started with some of the basics of WoW, all the way to the real world implications this game has had. The information that will be posted here is intended both for people who consider themselves serious gamers, as well as people who might not have much experience in gaming or for someone who is looking for a new hobby all together! In addition to the posts that I will be writing for this page, I will also be posting links to videos and forum posts about some of the events that occur in game. I will also post online tools that are helpful for player development that are simple and easy to use!
